Happy Weekend

Happy Labor Day Weekend! We're headed up to my Godparent's cabin until Monday. So excited for fishing, swimming, boating, eating, walking, playing games, relaxing, and laughing. Their cabin is one of my happy places; I absolutely love it there.
I'm honestly ready for fall, mainly because I'm so sick of my summer clothes, but I'm going to make the most of this end-of-summer weekend and enjoy every minute. When it's the middle of January and 20 below zero I'll be wishing for summer days like these!

I hope you all have a lovely long weekend! Enjoy these last glorious moments of summer!

Mad Men and Angel Food

Yesterday was Dusty's birthday, so I wanted to dress up a little. He'll only turn 27 once, right? I broke out this old Forever 21 dress that I really like on it's own, it has kind of a Mad Men vibe, but we were going for a walk by the water and the evening was cooling off. It was a good chance to wear the Zara jacket that I got in New York for the first time. I think it's such a great piece, and I have a lot of outfit ideas revolving around it... I made Dusty his birthday request: tacos and angel food cake with strawberries and whipped cream. Its ridiculous how easy the cake was. Step one: Cake mix in bowl. Step two: add water. Bake. Cake! Aside from a stroll through his favorite sporting goods store, our night was pretty low key. Next year is his golden birthday so maybe we'll amp it up a little.

I actually like low key birthdays. Anyone with me?

10 Strong

Today is my husband Dusty's 27th birthday. We were chatting last night about how when we met he was 17 and I was 16. Since it was all but love at first sight, I realized I have loved him for ten years!  And since he takes most of the pictures for my blog, I wanted to share a few pictures featuring the man behind the camera!
A road trip to the Badlands of South Dakota
Driving our new boat
Cheering for his beloved Packers at Lambeau
Always a good sport at my Vikings games in his cheerleader t-shirt
The sweetest uncle to our niece Carolyn.
I love this picture of him
Sharing sushi on our first wedding anniversary
First look on our wedding day 6/11/11
 First married kiss
Decorating for our first Christmas at our new (old!) house
Silly moment at our engagement shoot
The weekend we got engaged
Showing off the salmon he caught in Alaska
Best day
First dance
Just married

Dust, thank you for being so supportive, encouraging, funny, smart, and kind, and the perfect other half of me. You're my best friend and truly the best person I have ever met. Love you so much. Happy birthday!

Sally Tomato

Top: H&M | Pants: H&M | Shoes: Zara | Sunnies: Target | Watch: Michael Kors | Earrings: Stella & Dot | Bag: Dooney & Bourke
I was in an Audrey Hepburn mood today. I love the scene in Breakfast at Tiffany's when she's getting all dressed up to go see Sally Tomato at Sing Sing. I don't know any imprisoned mobsters but I was pretty excited when I got my hair finagled into an Audrey-esque French Twist. Audrey's style was so impeccable and her movies were so stylish. Funny Face is probably my favorite, but Sabrina, Roman Holiday and of course Breakfast at Tiffany's are all up there. She's an endless source of inspiration.

Questionable

I feel like everything about this post is a little questionable. I liked this outfit better in real life than in the photos, and the photos themselves are not... um, my best. I thought I'd post one anyway since this blog is about what I'm wearing, so here it is. Just a random Friday, the highlight of which was going for chocolate amaretto fudge at Knokes, my favorite chocolate/candy/ice cream shop.

Uh, yeah. Better luck next time Lil.

Pop of Color

Top: J.Crew | Skirt: J.Crew | Shoes: Seychelles | Bag: Modalu | Accessories: H&M | Sunnies: Target | Lips: Revlon Balm Stain in Rendezvous

Lately I just want color and more color in my wardrobe. I used to be obsessed with grays, ivories, navies and whites, so I don't have as much color in my closet as I'd like. (YET.) For fall I'm in a seriously technicolor mood. I'm craving brights. Today I like the combination of the bright orange with the blue in my shoes. But wouldn't it be fun if my skirt were, say, mustard yellow or the same blue as my shoes? Or maybe kelly green?

Working on it.

Fantasy... Football?

Top: J.Crew, Shorts: American Eagle, Scarf: Francescas, Shoes: Paloma Barcelo via Nordstrom, Bag: Modalu, Watch: Timex for J.Crew, Bracelets: Stella & Dot
Well friends, I've joined a Fantasy Football league. Despite knowing next to nothing about football, I'm in. It's an all girls league and I'm told no one takes it too too seriously so I should be ok. I'll certainly have Dusty looking over my shoulder each week giving me advice. The draft was tonight and he hasn't seen my team yet. I'm pretty curious to hear his critique of my drafting skills. Which I admit are the complete work of my dog-eared cheat sheet page in the Fantasy football magazine he threw in my bag this morning. And I didn't stick it out the top just so you could see it. My bag is literally that full of, well, stuff, that it wouldn't fit inside. Time for a clean out.

Side note: I will never ever ever get sick of stripes.

Dots and Ruffles

Top: Joe Fresh, Jeans: Joe Fresh, Flats: Forever 21, Hat: J.Crew, Bag: J.Crew, Watch: Michael Kors, Bracelets: Stella & Dot, Etsy

I am so comfortable in this - slouchy boyfriend jeans and an easy cotton polka dot tee. This hat has saved my life on so many bad hair days this summer. Tonight Dusty and I took a walk by the water, grocery shopped and grilled. I'm thankful over and over again for the pretty area we live in. Did you see the sailboats and hot air balloon? And the weather has been as perfect as weather can possibly be. More of the same, please!

Weekend Roundup

Here are a few shots of my weekend as seen through the lovely filters of Instagram.

On Friday my mom, sister, baby Carolyn and I had a girl's movie night. Carolyn watched her first Shirley Temple movie, Curly Top. Vanessa and I loved Shirley Temple as kids so that was kind of sweet.
I blogged about Saturday here, but here are a few more snaps. Dusty and I went to Stillwater, another river town about ten minutes from us.
Vintage shoes and garters at an antique shop
My favorite quote, by Oscar Wilde. This was on a greeting card at a little stationery shop.
A peek of the two vintage dresses I found. This made me so excited, because I've never bought vintage before!

Having drinks and apps on the deck at Freighthouse, a fun restaurant and bar by the water. There were a few different weddings going on in the area so the people watching was really fun.
Chips and guac, can't go wrong.
I spent Sunday morning reading Vogue. I felt like the September issue called for the fancy wedding china.
Later on we had family taco night at my parent's. I fed my sweet Carolyn carrots for her dinner. She is seriously the apple of my eye.
Carolyn Lou playing at Nana and Papa's.
And finished off the weekend with a ballerina cupcake.

I love weekends like this, full of family and fun things mixed with relaxing. What did your weekend bring you?
